The Covid-19 pandemic depressed the Canadian petrochemicals sector at a time when it was already enduring contraction, alongside the decline of end-markets such as the automotive sector. The decline has caused concern within the country's main petrochemicals hub in Alberta, prompting the provincial government to revise its investment incentives programme. However, this may not be sufficient to prevent deferment or even cancellation of worldscale polypropylene and polyethylene plants planned for 2023.
